Finally, I like this sport, and, even if I have never practiced it, in the future, I will. I think that is interesting and funny, so everybody who haven't got any heart disease, may practice it, however, it's your opinion, so leave a comment below.

Famous Paragliders

 There are a some paragliders who achieved records in this sport, and, of course, they became famous, like Seiko Fukuoka-Naville, from japan, to achieve the largest flying distance in female category or Antoine Girard, for the highest flight.

At today, one of the most famous paragliders is Jean-Baptiste Chandelier:

Equipment

The paragliding gear is composed by two main parts:

-The wing; this is not a common wing, this fundamental piece known in engineering as "ram-air airfoil", it's made of specials non-porous high-performance materials like nylon or rip-stop polyester.

 Pieces of the wing:

1. Upper surface
2. Lower surface
3. Rib
4. Diagonal rib
5. Upper line cascade
6. Middle line cascade
7. Lower line cascades
8. Risers

-The harness; the pilot is always buckled into a harness, which supports he/she in standing and in sitting position. These harnesses, acts like airbag protectors to reduce impacts of failed launches or landings.

  

There also exist some more instruments, used from paragliding pilots, like:

-Variometer, this instument are used to show the altitude

-Radios, the radios are used to comunicate with the team, to assist during maneuvers
-GPS, to track the paraglider position

History

 Paragliding is a descendant of the parachuting. In the years 50s, it was created the first paragliding parachute, that couldn´t work in normal situations, then, it was created a special equipment to use this, later, in the 60s, a paragliding manual were written and in 70s, in the next years, the equipment and the techniques improved, while the sport got more and more famous.    

Where may I practice this sport?

 

In Canary Islands, you may practice paragliding almost everywhere because of the great number of high places that there are in this archipelago.
 However, it exist some places where this sport is particularly practiced; like El Medano, in Tenerife, that is a famous place for sky sport practices.
 But, of course, you have to put an eye on the weather, this is because you are under winds effect and if this winds are to strong, it may be hard to join paragliding; so, look at weather previsions before go practicing this sport.
On the other hand, Canary Islands have a similar weather all along the year so there aren't too many problems with this factor.
